Genral Information - Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Background Saint Vincent part of the Windward Islands, the southern group of the Lesser Antilles in the West Indies was colonized in 1762. France captured it in 1779 but returned it to Britain in 1783. The islands were formerly part of the British colony of the Windward Islands from 1871 to 1958. The nation gained full independence in 1979. The Grenadines include 32 islands, the largest of which are Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, and Union. Some of the smaller islands are privately owned. |
